Directional Drilling Stanwell

Directional Drilling Services in Stanwell by CW Pipewise

Directional drilling offers a trenchless way to install new pipes and cables in Stanwell without digging long open trenches. By guiding new services underground from small entry and exit pits, CW Pipewise helps keep homes, businesses and traffic in Stanwell moving with far less disruption, noise and mess than traditional open-cut excavation.

What is Directional Drilling?

Directional drilling (often called HDD – horizontal directional drilling) installs pipes and ducts along a pre-planned underground route. In Stanwell, we excavate a compact launch pit, drill a guided pilot bore beneath streets, driveways or gardens on the agreed line and depth, then enlarge the bore if required and pull the new pipe back through so it emerges exactly where it is needed. Because the drilling head can be steered, CW Pipewise can follow curved routes and avoid existing underground services around Stanwell.

Our Trenchless Drilling Capability

CW Pipewise operates compact, steerable mini drill rigs that are well suited to built-up and space-restricted locations in and around Stanwell. The technology we use is ideal for trenchless house connections for gas, water, power, fibre optics (FTTH) and sewage pressure lines, parallel bores alongside roads and footpaths, and short undercrossings beneath streets, driveways, gardens, rail embankments or small watercourses. Because the rigs work from small pits rather than large excavations, reinstatement is faster and cleaner for residents, businesses and local authorities in Stanwell.

Typical Applications

CW Pipewise directional drilling is suitable for a wide range of projects in Stanwell, including:

  • New domestic or commercial utility connections
  • Replacing or upsizing existing small diameter services to homes and business premises
  • Installing services beneath roads without needing a full road closure in busy parts of Stanwell
  • Crossing under driveways, patios, landscaped gardens and tree roots with minimal disruption
  • Running services along footpaths or grass verges where open trenching would be messy or impractical
  • Installing lines in challenging ground, on slopes or in areas with existing buried utilities

Depending on local ground conditions in Stanwell, our technology can handle short to medium length bores for service lines, including longitudinal runs of up to around 100 metres for suitable pipe sizes.

How Our Directional Drilling Process Works

1.
Survey & planning

We assess the route, existing buried services and surface constraints, then design the bore path and choose the most suitable rig set-up.

2.
Launch & reception pits

Small pits are excavated at the start and finish points (or to an intermediate pit if required). These are carefully positioned to minimise impact and allow safe rig operation.

3.
Guided pilot bore

The mini HDD rig drills a steerable pilot bore along the planned route. A locating system monitors the drill head position and depth, so the operator can continuously adjust to follow the design line and avoid existing utilities.

4.
Bore enlargement

For larger pipes, reamers are pulled through the pilot bore to open it up to the right diameter, using drilling fluid to carry spoil away and stabilise the hole.

5.
Pipe
pull-back

The new pipe, duct or cable protection is attached to the drill string and pulled smoothly back through the bore into its final position.

6.
Connection & reinstatement

Once installed, the new service is connected, tested and commissioned. The launch and reception pits are reinstated to a high standard, leaving the surface neat and tidy.
